The Benefits of Writing a Book

It may seem like the idea of writing a book is so unnecessary for your business as a salesperson. But, before writing it off as a waste of time, you should understand how it can benefit your business.

Writing a book is a great way for a salesperson or entrepreneur to gain authority in their space, to be better known, to make an impact on more people, and to get their name out there. And who doesn’t want those things when they’re trying to sell and build a business?

The truth is, there are so many ways that entrepreneurs can use their book in a business-minded way as a salesperson. It reinforces their expertise with their audience. Plus, it inspires a feeling of fulfillment from finishing something, which can spur momentum alone.

Finally, publishing your book puts your legacy and reputation to paper and online for the world to see. This is pretty major. Think about how much more respect you’ll score when you hand a prospect a copy of your signed book rather than a business card. Pretty powerful, right?

How Books Have Spurred Jeffrey & Jen’s Success

We speak from experience when we say writing books is so important to the success of entrepreneurs. In 1992, Jeffrey began writing a column in the Charlotte Business Journal. About three columns in, he realized that if he wrote 100 of these, he’d have a book. That realization inspired him to go for it.

Since then, he’s written 17 books and can trace every penny he’s earned back to something he’s written.

That’s pretty powerful stuff. And along the way, since we both began our book writing journeys, we’ve experienced some pretty cool encounters that we wouldn’t have otherwise. For example, Jen got a call from someone who saw her book at an airport. They wanted to work with her because they knew she was good at sales. The kicker? They didn’t even buy her book! All it took for them to trust in her ability was seeing her name as a published author.

And because of his books, Jeffrey now has clients calling him rather than him having to go out and chase that business. And that can be your experience, too, once you put a pen to paper to showcase your expertise.

How a Book Solidifies Your Expertise: The Bottomline

Are you convinced yet? A book is a perfect way to solidify your expertise, serving as a living and breathing document that showcases all that you have to offer to your clients. So what are you waiting for? Show up for your business, build your legacy and reputation, and start writing.
