Start it Out Right

So you want to be one of those people who springs out of bed first thing in the morning? Greet the day and all that? Maybe have little animated birds sing with you and help you dress? The only one standing in the way of all of that is you (and maybe the animators at Disney).

But really, you should remember every day that your morning mindset is your mindset for the day. And only you have control of it. So if you’re fighting to get up and out of bed, start thinking about all the ways you could be using that time and building momentum. When you kill your own opportunity that automatically creates a negative space in which to start the day, and that’s a no from me.

Secondly, maybe start to look at why you’re delaying the inevitable and not just getting over it and getting up. Why are you telling yourself that you “can’t”, why aren’t you excited to embrace another day in your life?

Usually, it means you haven’t adequately prepared; you want the end goal but haven’t put in the work to get there, so you know that your lack of preparation means you’re in for a hectic day full of last-second finishes. So, stop it already. 

You are What You Think; The Bottomline

Listen, this all starts with you just backing off the snooze button and going forward. The best way to get caught up is to just DO it already. Do the things, and think about them; ways to get them done more efficiently, ways to take on your day, how to accept what’s happening instead of fighting it. Also tell yourself that 5 extra minutes of sleep is never just 5 minutes, and if it is, that’s a pretty pointless way to set yourself up for a day of negativity and lost productivity.

Get out there and change all the things that make you not want to leave the bed. Examine all the things that make you reach for your coffee, or a cigarette, or a glass of wine at the end of the day, and change the things in your life that make you seek an escape; none of these are advancing your mental diet. Stop avoiding, and start showing up for yourself and your evolution into a better version of yourself.

That might mean spending an hour in the morning reflecting and preparing (OUT of bed) but if you fill your cup for that hour, you’ll be better at ALL the things you have to do for the rest of the day. Because you hit the ground running and made sure your morning mindset was nourishing your mental diet.
