Supporting Female Entrepreneur: The beginning of Renee’s story, how she got involved in sales, as well as the motivation behind the Female Entrepreneur Summit

Renee started her career as a graphics designer soon after she graduated from Kent State University with a degree in graphic design. When Rene started working for Valpak, she was assigned to an automobile dealership in Atlanta where she had her first sales pitch, and she immediately closed the deal. Renee had her first experience with sales, and all she can say is it was not that hard if you just connect with people and try to genuinely help them.

While Renee was a star in her sales job in Atlanta, it was too far from her home, so she decided to go home and start her career in video graphics in Cleveland. Years later, Renee discovered the flexibility and benefits of freelancing in the graphics department and suggested the idea to her supervisor. Fortunately for her, her supervisors dumped this idea so she decided it was time to move forward and quit her job. This incident gave her the strength to borrow $8,000 from her father-in-law to start her own business from her home, and her business only grew from there. Eventually, she started publishing magazines focusing on B2Bs and female entrepreneurs, an area where she initially saw a lack of support in the entrepreneur industry. Today, Renee has shifted her focus from publishing magazines to organizing an annual Female Entrepreneur Summit, a summit whose goal is to provide support and inspiration for female entrepreneurs and leaders.

The Female Entrepreneur Summit became a successful marketing tool for Renee’s company that allows them to earn a profit and get successful leads, but that’s not the only reason why she decided to organize the event. According to Renee, the ultimate purpose of this event was to help female entrepreneurs network with each other, especially those in non-traditional entrepreneur spaces outside of the corporate ladder.

Supporting Female Entrepreneur: Renee’s core concepts of entrepreneurship and sales

Renee defines entrepreneurs as those who start their business from the ground up, so not those who buy somebody else’s business, those who acquire a franchise, or those who inherit their business. For Rene, entrepreneurs are those who are solving legitimate problems using their own skills and talent.

The same concept holds true for sales: serve your clients by helping them solve their problems. If you can’t, find somebody who can. In sales, you don’t just build a relationship, you also nurture and widen that relationship into a network. You connect entrepreneurs who can help one another. And Renee will tell you that it will come back to your business tenfold.

Renee also defied one of the basic sales principles which is the “Seven Touches”. According to Renee, even with her experience and expertise, it sometimes takes 12-16 touches to connect. Her advice? Never give up on genuine care and concern and realize that sales are born out of time and relationships. This is also more evident today considering that people are craving for actual human connections after weeks in lockdowns and restrictions. Her other advice? You can’t afford to be an average nowadays, you have to be exceptional over and over again. Covid or no Covid, you have to figure out a way to get people’s attention. As Renee mentioned, you have to be exceptional all the time, no excuses!

We can’t keep doing things the same way if we want different results. This pandemic has given us a gift of time to reflect and decide how we want to move forward especially if you’re stuck in the hamster wheel of slumps.

The Female Entrepreneur Summit and Supporting Female Entrepreneurs with Renee Deluca Dolan: The Bottomline

If there are two key things that Renee has shared to us today, it’s that sales is all about consistency and being detailed. If you want to close a sale, you have to pursue it consistently. If you want to close a sale, you have to keep caring about the tiny little details that make up the whole relationship with your clients.

Renee has a genuine desire to help women entrepreneurs stick together. It is important for women to have a safe space to just innovate and grow with support from a strong community. Renee’s advice for those who want to follow her footsteps and create a difference in their community: Find out what you are passionate about. You cannot kindle a fire within your community if you are not burning with your own passion.
